Fences, decks, hoops and honey-do lists for Holly Springs, where 81 percent of homes are lived in by the people who own them.

Few towns grew faster. Holly Springs built a sewer system in 1987, had 908 residents in 1990 and 9,192 by 2000, according to UNC's Exchange Project, and the 2020 census counted 41,239. ACS 2024 5-year data via Census Reporter shows 77 percent of today's 15,625 homes went up in 2000 or later and only 3 percent before 1980. Roughly one house in three dates from 2000 to 2009, which puts its original fence, deck and carpeted stairs at 17 to 26 years old. That is the age when builder-grade materials start to fail.
Holly Springs is also the most owner-occupied town around, at 81 percent, and a young one: the 2020 census found 32.8 percent of residents under 18. That shapes the work. Families here want an in-ground basketball goal set straight and solid in the driveway, TVs and shelves mounted, stair carpet that has worn thin swapped for wood-look plank treads, and a running honey-do list handled in one visit. We do all of it, and we take texts and WhatsApp at (929) 701-0004 when it is easier to show us the job than to describe it.
Holly Springs requires no permit for most fences, but its rules are specific. Front yards top out at 4 feet and allow only wood or vinyl picket, brick or ornamental fencing. Side-interior and rear yards go to 6 feet, and those are the only places chain link is allowed. The finished side faces outward, nothing goes in a public easement such as a greenway or sewer line, and inside a private drainage easement your HOA gets the final say. Decks attached to the house or larger than 12 feet in any direction need a residential building permit, with footings inspected before the concrete goes in.
April 16, 2011 is the storm people here remember. NOAA's Storm Events Database traces that tornado up Avent Ferry Road to Fire Station Number Two and the Holly Glenn subdivision, where it hit 86 mph, then across Highway 55 through Remington. WRAL reported about 15 homes with significant damage and dozens more needing minor fixes. Smaller hits keep coming: trees fell on homes along Skymont Drive in July 2009 and onto a house on Lucky Ribbon Lane in Twelve Oaks in August 2019. Summers add their own wear, with normal highs at 90 degrees or above from June 25 to August 10 at RDU.

Both. The town's fence page says it is the property owner's responsibility to know and follow the neighborhood's restrictive covenants, on top of the town's own height and material limits. Inside a private drainage easement, the HOA decides whether a fence can go there at all. Bring us your covenants and we build to the stricter rule.
Yes. In-ground hoops are part of our mounting and assembly work, and a Goliath install is one of the jobs in our portfolio. The anchor sits in a concrete footing that has to cure before the pole and backboard go on, and the kit spells out the wait. The Town of Holly Springs also reminds residents to call 811 so buried utilities get marked before anyone digs.
The damage it leaves behind: roof leaks, missing shingles and loose flashing, torn gutters, cracked siding and broken fence sections. Our roof work is repair only. Limbs on houses are a regular entry in the Holly Springs storm record, from the 2011 tornado through Holly Glenn and Remington to the tree that hit a house in Twelve Oaks in 2019.
Just about anything on the honey-do list. Repairs, drywall, trim carpentry, mounting, doors, fixtures, and outdoor assembly like basketball hoops. If you're not sure, just ask.
That's our favorite kind of call. Hand us the full list and we'll knock it all out in a single visit so you're not chasing down multiple contractors.
